Day 1
We leave Mérida in the morning driving up through El Valle to La Culata, the departure point of our hike which lies at 2,950 m. above sea level. We will trek for about 3-4 hours in order to reach our first campsite at the foot of a waterfall amidst a mystic valley full of Speletia flowers located at 3,600 meters above sea level. Overnight in tents.
Day 2
Our day starts with a steep ascent for a couple of hours to Pan de Azúcar peak at 4,600 meters above sea level. Weather permitting we will be able to see Pico Bolivar (the highest of Venezuela at 5,007 meters) and Pico Humboldt. We will trek through an Andean dry desert type landscape to reach our second campsite at the edge of 3 mountain lakes. (6-8 hours walking). Overnight in tents.
Day 3
Today we descend 3-4 hours on small mountain trails where the gem of Sierra La Culata National Park awaits us. The natural hot springs lie at 3,200 meters and are a perfect place to relax after a couple of cool nights in the mountains. The water temperature goes from 32 – 38 Celsius degrees. After enjoying a picnic we will make our final trek down to meet our transportation to Mérida city.
